Back Among the Undead

. With Marty and Quinn away for the summer, the group has been playing three handed games. We dropped Sketch in favor of Risus and 5X5. mostly dungeon crawls and supernatural pulp.

In honor of Fear the Walking Dead, we've gone from Highway from Hell to the urban setting Hot Child in the City. I'm happy to say that Mini Six is the mechanic of choice. Crunchy combat is a fan favorite.

The hastily assemble encounter tables need reworking - outside of that - only a few major questions remain unanswered.

They didn't like that it was 'learn as you go' for combat skill, and PCs were on a slower learning curve about the undead.

The tyranny of zombie mathematics is best summed up by Spike in Fool for Love.

SPIKE
And we just keep coming. Like a
wave of roaches, and here you are
doing a minute waltz, trying to stomp
us all. But you can kill a hundred.
A thousand. A thousand thousand
and the armies of Hell besides. But
all we need...

SPIKE
...Is for one of us, just one,
sooner or later, to have the
thing we all are hoping for.

BUFFY
And that would be what?

SPIKE
(whisper)
One. Good. Day

TV Log

It may be time to start a TV log again. Standing vigil at David's mental collapse has me bummed out.

My last therapist believed that too much passive TV watching was the equivalent of downing a steady stream of Valium.

Three house rules:

If I'm not engaged in watching, turn the TV off or put in a disc.

Do not watch an edited for TV movie I have on disc.

Surf once around the horn then stop.

Right now I'm watching Cars, I might switch to The History Channel's Jesus: the Lost 40 Days.

The main idea is to be aware.

On the gaming front, Steven Edward and I are heading to the big city zombie apocalyose, as soon as make up tables for urban encounters.

TRW has been an unremitting grind. I'm constantly tired and short tempered.

Three Handed Risus has been going well.

Can't think of anything to say.

The Ladder

Short session this afternoon, the change up is using the Ladder from Zozer Games.

It's a micro iteration of Fudge on the Fly

I play it banter heavy, which was OK today, a light loose game.

Some debate over the gifts and flaws of the races/classes

I need to better understand the wound system

Summer of Darkness

I have fallen well behind in the modules for the online film course offered by TCM.

I spent the weekend resting, not catching up. I was the same for the group, we met for a while and did little in the way of gaming.

Age of Ultron

David's agoraphobia be damned, I might just go it alone tomorrow. The showtimes have become fewer, which possibly means it's run is coming to an end, which seems strange, it is out pulling newer films.

David's 'let's go/let's not' debate has become a comedy routine

Doc Sweets and Thug Notes

Some link love for Doc Sweets and Thug Notes.

With TV more and more a steaming pile of dim-wit reality shows, half-wit game shows, and nit-wit sitcoms, I rely on youtube and online line library resources for anything interesting.

Had to go solo, David's agoraphobia is manifesting again. It may be due to that his assistant/girlfriend had a breakthrough in her therapy the last couple of months.

"What a day! What a lovely day!"

Fury Road grabs you by the po-po and drags you across the Hell-scape Australian Outback.

Cinema as a full contact sport. Man, I am exhausted.

Miller is back with a relentless vengeance, his high octane post-apocalyptic nightmare is vividly realized is all its full-tilt glory.

Hit the Ground Running

For all of her pissing and moaning, Quinn can be a great gamer.

She agreed to the rules reset with batches to close the glitches she loved to abuse. Most annoying to her is that she cannot Heal herself anymore to gain free fatigue, although she can burn character points to restore health or fatigue.

Still, SKETCH plays fast; Wham Bam Thank You Ma'am fast. Edward is running The Goblin Lair with Steven, Quinn, and me running Elves.

At the brunch nook in Quinn's hotel we can game til dawn.

Bloody start to a bloody campaign. Edward was generous with relics, and the sheer number of the goblins will offset that.

He's still having trouble with the low numbers in SKETCH, a +1 bonus is a 17% bump.

Seems I was Semi-retired...........

Quinn wants to go back to using SKETCH, with the glitches patched up. Healing spells are now Heal Others only; she can still recover her own damage/fatigue by burning character points.

Steven wanted to borrow my Goblin Lair adventure, and broke the news.

Here we go again.

He is going to let me stat out my old elf character, along with the relics Rope of Thievery and the Eye of Maya.

Slumming in the Raider-verse

Sublimating my need to game by playing at making a Pulp worldbook for Mini Six.

I've been noodling upping the supernatural ambiance.

Lacking drive to do any real work. Quinn, Tony, Stephan, and Edward have shown no interest in doing anything pulp. And Open Game Night is no nearer finding a venue.
